Licensing Information
Terminology:
- SquidNet Network: A computer system made up of 2 or more networked machines that are combined together to perform distributed processing operations.
- Tipnode: A processing computer within the SquidNet network. Any computer that has SquidNet installed on it is considered a tipnode and can act as a submitting workstation, a processing "engine" or both.
- SquidNet job: A user request that contains one or more units of work called slices. A job can contain one or more slices and each slice can process one or more frames. Each frame can be processed by one or more physical cores.
- Slice: A single processing unit. The portion of a job that actually gets processed by individual tipnodes.
- Tipnode Floating License: Allows for the processing of a job slice on the network. Tipnode licenses are floating and can be used by any available tipnode on the network. Each tipnode license is equal to one active job slice.
- User Floating License: Adds additional users to user management system. User licenses are floating and can be used by any available tipnode on the network.
SquidNet products are as follows:
- SquidNet Deluxe is free and can be downloaded without charge. The download includes 2 free tipnode licenses.
- SquidNet Professional requires the purchase of a special license key that unlocks all advanced features. When purchased, you'll be given (and emailed) a license key that you must store in a safe location. Please safeguard license keys for future installations and upgrades. Purchased licenses have no expiration date and are good for all future updates and added features.
- SquidNet Tipnode Floating Licenses are what enable the real processing power of SquidNet. By default, 2 tipnode licenses are installed. With 2 licenses, SquidNet will process at most 2 job slices (slice = single processing unit) in parallel (concurrent processing) regardless of the number of installed tipnode machines or pending jobs. For example, a SquidNet network with 12 machines and only 6 tipnode licenses will only process 6 slices at any given time --- regardless of the number of jobs queued and the number of online tipnodes. Essentially, the number of active job slices (not jobs) in the network work queue will always be the equal to (or less than) the number of installed tipnode licenses. Any remaining job slices will remain in a "wait" status until tipnode licenses become available. In general, one tipnode license is used up for every active job slice (1 license = 1 job slice). The number of installed licenses determine the maximum number of concurrently running job slices.

Purchasing Instructions
SquidNet Professional and SquidNet Tipnode licenses can be purchased from the embedded webstore within the SquidNet Management Console (SMC). Under the Help menu you'll find submenu options for purchasing either license. Once ordered, you'll receive a confirmation email that contains your personalized license with serial number. Please store your license information in a safe location.
For a full featured system, you'll need at least one of the following:
(1) SquidNet Professional License: One license is good for an entire network. SquidNet-Pro license keys are in SquidNetPro-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx format.
(1 or more) SquidNet Tipnode License: By default, 2 node licenses are installed for free. Each additional license is good for one node without any regard to the number of CPU cores. Tipnode licenses keys are in SquidNetLic001-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx format.
