Lightwave under Linux

I am trying to do some testing with squidnet, lightwave, and linux. I have installed wine into linux and have verified that both lightwave, and squidnet work. I can render a file in linux from within lightwave using lwsn, and I can see the linux squidnet client status from my Windows squidnet computer. However, I can not get the linux station to render using squidnet. It appears this should be possible because there is a lightwave/linux template available. But when I try to verify the location of lwsn.exe, it can not be found. I have tried using both the linux path (/.wine/drive_c/Program Files.....), and Windows path (C:\Program Files\newtek.....). But neither way works. I thought maybe the linux squidnet client also needed to be installed and ran through wine. So I tried that. But it has to run with administrator priveleges and I don't thank that is possible from within wine. Can someone verify this is possible and maybe lead down the correct path? My goal is to have lightwave rendering with 1 windows workstation, and 6+ linux stations.
Re: Lightwave under Linux
Hi,
For your linux boxes, you'll need to setup the proper lwsn path using SquidNet's application path manager. Once setup, the SquidNet daemon running on each linux box will know where to find the LW render binary.
Send us an email if you have further questions.

Re: Lightwave under Linux
Thanks for the reply.
I just want to confirm what I am trying to do will work.
I am using LW10's version of LWSN which will have to run under wine on the linux node.
I know there was a linux version of LWSN in earler versions.
Will Squidnet run the windows version of LWSN on the linux render nodes?

Re: Lightwave under Linux
And to piggy back onto that question, if I can run the latest LWSN.exe on the linux client, can it be ran from the network share located on the controller, or does it need to be loaded locally on the linux node?
Re: Lightwave under Linux
This is where I am getting stuck. You can see on the right hand side, I have Lightwave loaded into Ubuntu and it is functional under WINE.
On the left hand side, Ubuntu is seen in the controller list, but no matter what I put in the "Application Path On Render Node" it will not verify. I have tried every combination of both linux path formats and Windows path formats. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Re: Lightwave under Linux
Hi again,
It looks like you have some strange permission issue on your linux box. Make sure the squidnet daemon is running under the root account and that the lwsn.exe path has RWX permissions.
If you're still having issues, send us an email so we can look into it further.
